Demeter is the Greek goddess of agriculture, fertility, and harvest. She is often depicted holding a sheaf of wheat or a cornucopia, symbolizing abundance, and is associated with the life-giving aspect of the earth. As a central figure in the Eleusinian Mysteries, Demeter is also linked to the cycles of life and death, particularly the annual changing of the seasons. She is the mother of Persephone, whose annual descent to and return from the Underworld bring about the seasons, further emphasizing Demeter's connection to nature and growth.
